Using your programming skills with fellow students to neutralise a hacker

Reading time Minutes

Utilising technical skills alongside 60 other HBO-ICT students to infiltrate systems. Our students did just that during our annual 'Capture the Flag' event, successfully thwarting the fictional hacker from Saxion!

Cracking realistic challenges with your team

Applying knowledge gained from their HBO-ICT studies in a realistic scenario where the security of all Saxion individuals is at stake. Our students found this experience invaluable!
They were given just four hours to solve various challenges in teams comprising students from all years.

Solving a realistic hack with fellow students is very cool!

From coding in Java to deciphering Morse code in a knitted scarf, students were challenged in various ways! The event also allowed time for some snacks and drinks, of course, after solving a technical puzzle.

The winning team

We incorporated a gaming element into the event as well. This allowed students to earn points, and the top 3 teams competed in the final to take control of the hacker's computer. Fortunately, the data of Saxion students and staff was secured in time. And the drinks afterward too! But the real victory lies in introducing students to the world of cybersecurity. And that was achieved too.

I couldn't solve all the challenges, but I've become very interested in this field.

We're already looking forward to the next hacker event!
