Deventer
Classes will start on Monday 2 September. Your schedule will be available online at Xedule in August. Please check all schedules, so you will have an idea about subjects and times on the first days of your study. You will receive detailed information upon arrival at Saxion University and online.
For all regular school days we expect you to:
- arrive between 8.30 and 9.30 in G5.27/D3.61, although you're free to make an occasional exception;
- leave (on average) about 7 hours later;
- bring your own lunch and something to drink (or buy it in the canteen);
- bring your laptop and headphones;
- school days are Monday through Friday, unless you made a special arrangement to partially work from home or study fewer days a week due to other obligations.
The list of holidays is available here. Why not put them in your agenda right away?
On MySaxion.nl you will find all the tools you need for your studies at Saxion. You can find the following on MySaxion:

MySaxion Student App
Thanks to the new MySaxion Student App, you can now check your phone at any moment to see your current timetable and exam timetable. If a timetable changes, then you will receive a notification. Read on to see how to install the app and what you can expect of it.
This is the first step towards offering you a smartphone app that has all the information you could need during your studies. Download the app, available in the store now!
Books
You won’t need any. Long live the internet! :-)
Laptop
The programme requires that you bring a laptop that has at least 12 GB of internal memory, 250 GB of SDD storage and wireless 802.11n. We recommend that the laptop has at least a 15" screen and a keyboard that is comfortable to you.
The laptop needs to be able to run the Linux operating system, which we'll help you install during the first week. Most laptops will generally do fine with Linux, except for Macbooks, for which some of the hardware may not be supported. Also, NVIDIA graphics cards can cause some trouble, so you may want to avoid them. If you want to keep running another operating system besides Linux (Windows for gaming perhaps), we recommend at least 500 GB of SSD storage.
If you're buying a laptop, consider looking into pre-owned ones as well. High-end laptops from five years ago can still be great and relatively cheap.
You’ll also require headphones (or earbuds) in order to watch video instructions without disturbing others. Many students opt for noise cancelling headphones, to help with concentration.

Dear future Software Development student,
Here you will find all the information you need to make a great start at the Associate degree Software Development programme!
Monday the 2th of September
First and foremost: we're expecting to welcome you here on Monday the 2th of September, the first day of school. Please mark, highlight and underline this date in your agenda!
IMPORTANT: Our programme does not participate in the central Saxion introduction week (INTRO 2024), the week before. Please do not register for that event, or ask your money back if you already did. We are organizing our very own introduction activities starting on the 2th of September though...
Here's the plan for Monday the 2th:
- 9.00 – Arrival
Please join us between 9.00 and (at the latest) 9.30 in our very own offices, which you hopefully have visited before during a trial day and an open day. - Deventer: D3.61 in the main building (Handelskade 75). Take the escalator, then the stairs, go right at the top, go right again at the ACT front desk and find us at the end of the corridor.
- 9.30 - Welcome and group creation
A short welcome speech will be given, after which introduction groups will be created. We aim to form like-minded groups of about seven first year students and two older year guides to help you get up-to-speed. - 10.00 – Introductions
Get to know your introduction group and your study coach (teacher). - 11.00 - Code of Conduct Quiz
How things work around here on a daily basis is described in our 'Code of Conduct'. We'll give everybody a brief time to study this document, after which we'll see who understood best by means of a fun little quiz. - 12.00 - Lunch
Sandwiches and drinks will be provided by us. (Just for this once! :-) You'll need to bring or buy your own lunch after this.) - 12.45 - Linux Installation
The first step in becoming a software developer is installing Linux on your laptop. At the end of the day you will have everything set up for all the programming exercises to come. - 15.00 - Challenge Hunt
Time for some fun activity. Your team will compete against other teams doing tasks for points in a challenge hunt. - 16.45 - Award Ceremony
Everyone is rounded up, the points are counted and prizes are awarded to the winning teams. - 17.00 - End of Day
After-party (with optional dinner orders) in the Iglo: We end the day with informal drinks. Optionally you can order dinner with your fellow students if you wish (own cost).
Trial day
We warmly encourage all future students to come in for a trial day, to find out if the programme is really for you. By far most of you have already done so, but if you haven’t already, please use the invitation link you received to schedule a day really soon. (Didn’t receive the link? Let us know!)
Students not currently living in The Netherlands are invited to a Meet & Greet by video instead.
International students
Starting a study programme is always an exciting life event, and especially so when you’re doing it abroad! Saxion provides a pretty comprehensive ‘onboarding manual’ for international students new to The Netherlands.
Please reply...
- if you will not be able to (fully) attend on the 2th of September, due to reasons outside of your control;
- if you are unsure if you’ll really be joining the programme. We may be able to provide you with more information to help you with your decision or obstacles. Or failing that, knowing about this helps us to accurately plan for the educational year;
- if you have any further questions or concerns.
We wish you a great summer and we’re looking forward to seeing you on September the 2th! ☀️😎🥥🌴🍦
Frank, Timothy, Ivo, Tibor, Joost, Remko, Peter, Olivier, Wilfred & Luuk, your teachers.
