Suzan Koning interim member of Saxion Executive Board from 1 March 2025

After receiving the Saxion University Council’s approval, the Saxion Supervisory Board has named Suzan Koning as Interim Member of the Executive Board as of 1 March 2025. Koning is currently Head at the School of Education (APO). She will temporarily be strengthening the Executive Board due to the pending departure of current board member Timo Kos.

Suzan Koning will hold this interim position until a new member of the Executive Board has been recruited and starts work.

Karl Dittrich, Chair of the Supervisory Board: “The Supervisory Board is very pleased that Suzan Koning, current Head at the School of Education, is willing to be temporary member of the Executive Board. Suzan has considerable experience in higher education, knows Saxion, is a good head of school and is very enthusiastic about helping to govern Saxion. The Supervisory Board received the approval of the Saxion University Council to appoint Susan and sees this as confirmation of a good choice. In short, all lights are on green and we are moving full-steam ahead!”

About Suzan Koning

 Suzan studied psychology at the University of Utrecht and has held various HRM and management positions in the business world. Alongside her work experience in the business community she also has an extensive background in education having worked in the education sector since 2007. Koning started at Saxion in 2018 as Head at the School of Education, which includes the Pabo (primary teacher training). Before that she was President of the Board/ Managing Director of CPS Onderwijsontwikkeling en Advies (education development and advice)] in Amersfoort. Koning has also worked in a variety of supervisory and advisory positions including in the education sector.

Suzan Koning: “A new executive role in challenging times, that is quite a change but at the same time gives me lots of energy. I’m looking forward to being able to contribute to the development of talent for our region the coming time in this position at Saxion. We have a lot of in-house expertise at Saxion and there are a lot of great opportunities out there with versatility being key. I’m happy to dedicate myself to this and have full confidence in Richard Wielinga and our colleagues. My ambition is to work on our strategic plan, collectively and without delay.”

President of the Executive Board, Anka Mulder: “I warmly welcome Suzan to the Executive Board and am pleased that she is going to be taking on this role this coming year. It is a role that suits her perfectly and although we will only be working together briefly, I’m really looking forward to it.”

The Executive Board

 As of 1 March the Saxion Executive Board with locations in Enschede, Deventer and Apeldoorn, will comprise of Suzan Koning along with Anka Mulder (until mid-April 2025) and Richard Wielinga. Saxion has more than 26,000 students and approximately 3,200 employees. The Supervisory Board is currently seeking a successor to Anka Mulder. The recruitment and selection procedure for a new executive board president is underway and is taking place in consultation with the University Council and Executive Board.

Timo Kos will leave Saxion at the end of February 2025. He has been an Executive Board member since 1 January 2020 and after 5 years in office, is going to say farewell to the university of applied sciences. He will become vice-president of the executive board at Leiden University on 1 March.

President of the Executive Board, Anka Mulder, will say farewell to Saxion in April 2025. After more than seven years as President of Saxion’s Executive Board, Anka has been appointed as Vice-President of the Dutch Research Council (NWO) with effect from 1 May 2025.
