City Guide Deventer - check out the best spots
Being an international student is not only about the university and the programme you will be studying, but also about the people you will be meeting and the place where you will be living. If you are reading this, then you most probably have already fallen in love with beautiful Deventer. Let me then tell you a little bit more about the best spots where you can spend your time as a student here.
Rijsterborgherpark
One of the first places you might spot after arriving in Deventer is Rijsterborgherpark. Right across the station, you can find this beautiful and peaceful park suitable for a variety of activities like hanging out with friends, doing sports or simply going for a walk when you would like to get some fresh air and clear your mind. You also cannot miss “Parkcafe Mees”, where you can sit and enjoy some delicious food and drinks while enjoying nature.
Happy tosti
Soon after your arrival you might realize that almost everyone knows of Happy Tosti. This restaurant is one of the most famous and known restaurants in Deventer as it offers some of the best sandwiches to enjoy for breakfast or your lunch break. It is a personal favorite for me as they offer delicious food, great service and a lovely atmosphere. If you are a fan of quick and tasty sandwiches I would highly recommend you to give it a try.
The public library
Unfortunately, studying is nobody’s favourite activity. Nevertheless, one of the best places in the city to do so, and not only, is the public library. It provides a great wifi connection for your studies and plenty of comfortable places to work on your assignments or chill out with your friends for free. My favourites are the garden and the roof terrace from where you can enjoy a great view of the city. Oh, and of course there is a cafe, offering one of the best caramel macchiatos I have tasted!
Meadow
Meadow on the Deventer City Beach is unquestionably the summer's hottest destination if I were to choose just one. Yes, you read correctly! Deventer might not be on the seaside but it has its gorgeous river IJssel. Meadow offers the perfect place for sunny days between April and October with drinks, snacks and a unique view of the skyline.
Deventer Buitensociëteit & Bowling
After a long day of going to lectures, doing assignments and working on projects you and your friends would deserve to have fun. My personal favourite is an evening of bowling at Deventer Buitensociëteit & Bowling. The bowling alley offers a variety of snacks and drinks, as well as great music for a fun night out. Make sure you call for a reservation as the alley can get quite crowded, especially during the weekends.
