Update 23: Access to Saxion buildings, graduation ceremony and scheduling for term 1

Reading time Minutes

Access to Saxion buildings until 1 September 2020

Saxion has a route map for the phased re-opening of Saxion as of June 2020 for students and staff members. From 15 June, Saxion buildings will be open and set out according to RIVM guidelines. As you are already aware, we will be studying and working from home as much as possible until 1 September. However, in some cases that will not always be possible and there are contingencies in place for this on campus. You can read more information about how this has been arranged below. Read the information and speak to your student counsellor where necessary.

Access to the buildings based on

  1. Necessary educational and research activities: if you are required to be at Saxion for necessary educational and research activities, then you will be scheduled in the timetable. You do not need to take any further action.
  2. No possibility to work at home: If you wish to visit one of the buildings because you have no opportunity to study at home, get in touch with your study career counsellor to discuss.

If you need to go to one of the buildings, what can you expect?

If you have read the information above and think that one of those options applies to you, then you will soon be coming to one of Saxion's buildings. And things will be different to how they were before the coronavirus.

It will take some getting used to, but with clearly marked signposts and application of one-way traffic in the stairwell, we try to help you move through the building as smoothly as possible. When you arrive, you can disinfect your hands, and toilets will be cleaned more frequently on working days. When it comes to catering, that will look very much as it does during vacation periods: there will be a limited range on offer between 12:00 and 13:00. The coffee machines throughout the building will be run through their cleaning cycle daily.

Observe the RIVM guidelines

If, based on the above information, you will be on site once again, then we warmly welcome you to one of our buildings. Of course, we request that you keep sticking to the RIVM guidelines. If you have mild cold symptoms and a fever (38 degrees Celsius or above) and/or shortness of breath, then stay home.

Exams term 4

Tuesday 9 June your exam timetable will be published. This will happen via the regular channels, where your exam timetables are usually to be found. Some online exams require that you first install a piece of software on your own PC or laptop. The Exam Office has made an overview of all the relevant information per system.

End of year graduation ceremony

Despite the current situation concerning the coronavirus, Saxion has decided that graduation ceremonies for all graduating students will go ahead. However this will be a different kind of ceremony than before, fully in compliance with the currently applicable RIVM guidelines: a walkthrough graduation ceremony! You will take a festive route through Saxion, where you will see warm-hearted support from your degree programme; you will receive a nice gift for after graduation and you will have the opportunity to take a photo at the 'I'm Ready for a Smart World' photo wall. In addition, you will be allowed to bring two guests to your graduation ceremony.

For (in particular) international students, the degree programme will organise an online graduation ceremony. It might also be the case that for organisational reasons, an online graduation ceremony will be offered instead of a walkthrough graduation. If that is the case, then in consultation with the degree programme, you will either be able to pick up your diploma at Saxion or you will receive your signed diploma through the post. This will also be the case when it is not possible for you to be present at the graduation ceremony. All students this relates to will be informed about their graduation ceremony by their degree programme shortly.

Hybrid education timetable term 1

In term 1 there will be a mix of both physical and online education. What this will look like exactly for each degree programme will become clearer in the coming period. Activities will be mainly aimed at practical education and getting to know/bonding with the programme and will take place physically if the RIVM guidelines allow. We also aim to have moments of physical teaching.

If you wish to know more about the preparations we have made for the reopening on 15 June, then read this interview!
