Will you be taking a minor next academic year? Then take a look at what’s on offer at Saxion. Read our tips and find the minor that is right for you!

What is a minor?

First, back to basics: a minor is a compulsory six-month elective course worth 30 credits (ECTS). You can think of a minor as giving you the chance to gain new insights and add colour and content to your study. This will be important when you start applying for jobs in the future. It helps you stand out from the crowd and showcase your interests.

At Saxion you can choose from a wide variety of minors. From broadly orientated minors such as general development, or creative problem-solving, to highly specialised minors enabling you to delve deeper into your specialist field. As you can see, there are plenty options to choose from!

When do you take a minor?

You normally take a minor in your third or fourth year of study. Before you can start a minor, you must have passed your first year examination. If there are specific entry requirements for your minor, then you need to be able to demonstrate that you meet them. Minors always start in September (term 1-2) or in February (term 3-4). During these six months you work full-time on your minor, as you would do for an internship.
