Saxion-NT2 has the following five language modules: A1, A2, B1, B2 and B2+/C1. Below you can read what you will be able to do at the end of each module. In addition to this foundation, the individual courses will pay a great deal of attention to what you wish to learn. This means that the aforementioned basic method is often used with additional books.
A1 and A2 modules
If you complete the A1 and A2 modules successfully, you will be a ‘basic user’ of Dutch. On completing the course you will be able to:
- tell things about yourself
- ask for things in a shop
- order in a restaurant
- ask for directions
- look for accommodation and
- become acquainted with new people.
We use the ‘Nederlands in Gang’ method. You will finish the course by sitting an A1 exam.
At the end of the course you will be able to tell things about yourself in a simple manner, to understand short messages and conversations, you will be able to write simple letters and to understand the key features in short texts. All skills will be covered: speaking, listening, writing and reading skills, grammar and vocabulary.
B1 and B2 modules
If you complete the B1 and B2 modules successfully, you will be an ‘independent user’ of Dutch. After successful completion of the B1 language module, you will:
- be able to communicate independently and handle most situations
- be able to describe events as well as your opinions, experiences, expectations and ambitions
- learn to understand the most important points being made in familiar concise standard texts on issues which occur regularly at work, at school and in situations in your free time.
- be able to produce simple texts on issues you are familiar with and on personal matters.
All skills will be covered: speaking, listening, writing and reading skills, grammar and vocabulary. We use the ‘Nederlands in Actie’ method. You will finish the course programme by sitting a B1 exam and you can consider sitting a NT2 programme I state examination after.
After you complete the B2 language module, you will:
- be able to communicate independently
- be able to react in such a fluid and spontaneous manner that you can have a normal conversation with natives, without this being an effort by one of the parties
- be able to understand the main idea of a complex text, regardless of it being on a concrete or abstract topic.
- learn to write clear, detailed texts on a wide range of topics
- be able to express your point of view on a current issue, while discussing the pros and cons of various options.
All skills will be covered: speaking, listening, writing and reading skills, grammar and vocabulary. We use the ‘Nederlands op Niveau’ method. The course will end with a B2 exam, and you can consider sitting a NT2 programme II state examination after.
To learn about the subtleties of Dutch after completing the B2 level, you can take the B2+ course.
C1 module
After successfully completing the B2+ course, you will be close to C1 level. This means that you will be more proficient at the language, meaning that living, working and studying in the Netherlands will be much easier and more interesting. To improve your academic language, the texts and videos we use are from popular science. All skills will be covered: speaking, listening, writing and reading. Extra attention is paid to speaking, pronunciation and grammar We use the book 'Nederlands naar Perfectie’, which works towards level C1.
